IT’S FINALLY ARRIVED…OUR FIRST QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER -Let’s celebrate SPRING with an in-depth look at a spectacular project showcasing how flow and color can provide maximum design impact within a budget. SHARE WITH OTHERS!

Doylestown Town and Country’s Spring/Summer 2023 Edition, “Designing Interior Flow” features my latest client project.

My wonderful clients (I had previously renovated their kitchen and great room) purchased a Bucks County farmhouse. The 4,500 square-foot farmhouse, built in 1854, had great character; however, the last aesthetic design updates made in the 70s were outdated and in need of a facelift. My clients desired a better functional flow throughout the home and to update the aesthetics to a more modern yet timeless look that fit with the history of the home. Neither of which was an easy ask as we were working with stone and plaster walls! I partnered with Bauer Construction to establish a better functioning floor plan and add key design elements which would serve my clients needs while also keeping their budget in mind.

Our initial focus was to update the first floor. We selected Sherwin Williams-Grey Heron for the walls and ceilings throughout the home. This light neutral color provided continuity throughout the various rooms, while also helping to brighten rooms since ceiling heights are just under 8 feet. We implemented beautiful tones of blue throughout the home for impact and interest.

The kitchen was renovated without changing its footprint; however, we opted to create a built in banquette for the breakfast area to allow for better flow of traffic from the back vestibule area.

The cabinets were painted Sherwin Williams, French Moire, with custom copper elements for the farmhouse sink, custom range hood, and table. Countertops are solid surface white quartz with gray veining to coordinate with the multicolored tile backsplash.

Other features including new lighting, appliances, a custom island, corner cabinet, coffee station and floating shelves complete this rooms update.

A custom built in was added in the kitchen back vestibule. We repurposed an existing closet to maximize storage and provide an area to tuck away the cat’s litter boxes as well as create a great landing area for muddy boots and coats from the barn.

The dining room had great bones; a large fireplace anchors the room with two walls of glass doors overlooking the extensive property and barn.

The goal here, again, was to update the aesthetics of the space. We continued with our neutral wall color adding a natural jute rug and a stately, yet ethereal chandelier. We were able to re-purpose the table and chairs from the client’s previous home but added seating with an upholstered settee in an aqua blue. The focal point however is the antique tile ceiling in an expresso blue patina! This added a perfect compilation of accent with ambiance to this one of a kind space.

Lastly, by designing a built-in aesthetic for the existing shelves in the great room we were able to rework the floorplan to maximize seating. We continued with shades of blue in the furniture upholstery and rug accents. We installed low-profile faux wood beams to break up the expansive ceiling and continue with our farmhouse theme.
